Martin Atkins ( Skinny Puppy, Killing Joke, Public Image Ltd., Pigface) is the author of one of my favorite music business books,Tour:Smart: And Break the Band. It’s chock full of awesome anecdotes and crucial advice for musicians getting their acts on the road. I consider it essential reading for the modern indie act, so if you haven’t checked it out yet grab it on Amazon.
He’s got a new book in the works called Band:Smart, and I expect it will be just as good as it’s predecessor. He’s running a campaign on Kickstarter to get it funded, which so far is doing really well, with over 30 backers in a day. He’s got 29 days left, and I expect he’ll make the date without a problem.
His second book, “Welcome To The Music Business…You’re Fucked” is available FOR FREE for a limited time, and all you have to do is watch the kickstarter video (embedded below) to get a copy. I just got mine, and I’ll let you know what I think after I’ve had a chance to dive in.
There are some awesome pledge rewards for backers, including signed albums, special thanks in the new book, and my personal favorite, the “clusterfuck”: He’ll add 5 instances of the word “Fuck” to the end of the book for a five dollar pledge.
